FUND RAISING EVENT FOR ACOMPALIA

Members--- A Night of Music is going to
be held at El Camping - on the right, just after you cross the seven eye
bridge after having come through the tunnel on the approaches to Orgiva.

This will be Acompalia's first fundraising event so I hope it goes well.
We have sold lots of tickets already, but it would nice if some Club
members were there.

It is on Thursday, 26th January, 8pm and tickets are €5. The Camping do
excellent tapas so it will not be an expensive night out.

The evening will start off with the Bagpipes; followed by Bruce's Barber
Shop Chorus; then Brenda's quartet of ladies; Spanish Guitar and piano
and guitar and singing; also a quartet of male tenors singing Spanish
Bolero/ love songs; an accordianist. This will then be followed by
requests from the floor. It should be a good night out as well as
raising some funds towards building the Hospice.

Dear Members

A most sincere thank you to all the members of the International Club who, following my talk on 21st September outlining the establishment of a Hospice in Motril kindly voted that a generous donation of €1,000 should be made to Acompalia. I promised at the time that I would not let you down and I am pleased to be able to give you an update of progress.

The architect, Angel Gijon, has visited Cudeca with our President, Julio Rodriguez, and completed the plans for the building of the Hospice to provide a service similar to that offered by Cuedca. Motril Ayuntamiento is to provide a 6,200 sq meter plot of land, in the region of the Los Moriscos Golf Club, where the hospice will be built.

The formal announcement of the project will take place as soon as our website and publicity materials are in place. In the mean time we have already started planning events to raise the estimated €1.5M to build the Hospice.

A number of Club members generously signed up to our membership scheme by paying €50 for a couple, and €30 for a single membership and now I am pleased to say that we are comfortably on our way to our first 50 founder members. As I promised at my presentation we will shortly start to send out an email newsletter to keep members up-to-date on our progress and also let you know of up and coming events.

We are delighted that the Barbershop Chorus, Tropical Tones, has adopted Acompalia as their Charity. They will be singing at various venues on the coast throughout November and December. They will be performing at the Hotel Salobrena and I shall let you know the date as soon as it is confirmed. Not only will this raise valuable funds, but it will inform people of our aims to establish a Hospice for the terminally ill living in the Province of Granada.

Jose, who owns the Camping in Orgiva, has agreed to host an evening of guitar music and choral singing during January. The date will be confirmed and tickets will be €5.

During May a special dinner with entertainment is being organized by supporters at El Molino, in Orgiva.

A Mid-Summer Ball is to be held at Casa de los Bates on 6th July 2012.

Café Ayer and Becks Hairdressers in Almunecar have both pledged their support.

We are also pleased to have been contacted by our first qualified volunteer Counselor who lives in Almunecar.

It is still early days. Next year Cudeca will celebrate 20 years of having provided a Telephone help line; Day Care Centre; Nursing Care in the Home; In Care Hospice Beds as well as offering counseling for patients and their families. We have been most grateful for Cudeca’s valuable support during the planning of the project.

I do hope anyone wishing to learn more, or willing to offer their help in raising funds, who has ideas or suggestions to make, or who is medically qualified, will get in touch via the contact details I have provided above.

May I repeat a very big thank you for helping us in our efforts to establish a Hospice in Motril.

Most sincerely

TINA EMMOTT

Vice President
