We hope that you are all bearing up and in good health physically and mentally during this difficult and stressful time. It is now day 19 of the lockdown here in Spain and we as a committee felt that it was time to write to you to let you know that we are still here, concerned about our members and looking forward to seeing you all as soon the state of emergency is over.
This week the committee held an online meeting via an application called Zoom. We decided that we should write to all ICS members to let you know that we are thinking of you all and that the club is still operating albeit in a very reduced capacity during the “Estado de Alarma”. The committee members considered what we could be doing, if anything, for our members during these extraordinary circumstances that we could never have imagined a few short weeks ago.
We are considering various possible online activities which we could offer to members to help them to pass the time during this period of confinement. One of the possibilities discussed was online crosswords which we hope to introduce soon. We would like to hear from you if you have had any involvement in setting crosswords and would like to help. In the meantime, we will find something on the internet.
We are investigating the feasibility of an online chat room for members. There will be more information on this later.
Obviously, we would like some feedback from you on our proposals. Additionally, if you have any other suggestions regarding activities that the ICS could offer or you have any skills which may assist the committee at this time, we would love to hear from you.
We don’t know how many of you know this but there is a support group called Salo Solidaridad set up in Salobreña to help those who may need some assistance in tasks such as for example, obtaining supplies from the supermarket or pharmacy. Here is a link to some information about the group:
As you will note, the information is in Spanish, but if you need help and don’t speak Spanish please get in touch with us and we can arrange to liaise with the group to provide bi-lingual assistance in English or other European languages. Of course, we know that our membership is spread all around the Costa Tropical and inland towards the Alpujarras. So if you know of support groups in your area, please let us know so that we can publicise them on our website.
Finally, we would like to reassure you that the ICS Committee is still working for you and we look forward to celebrating the end of the “ Estado de Alarma” with you soon and resuming normal club activities as soon as we can. In the meantime we hope you are well and managing to find interesting and useful things to do to occupy and amuse yourself during this sad and difficult time for all of us.
Stay safe, stay healthy and stay at home – ¡Quédate en casa!
