Weekly Update Seventeen

Hi and welcome to this week’s Weekly Update for a run down on everything that’s going on in ICS this week and more…

We forget to mention last week that on 30 April we managed to catch up with Manolo, the owner of Hotel Salobreña Suites and we presented our annual tip for the staff that look after us on Wednesdays. We have a long standing relationship with the hotel and they look after us very well.

This week we have one last chance before summer to practice our Tai Chi moves with George and Rose!

Read on for details below…

Monday 12 May

Our Discussion Group meets again at Hotel Salobreña Suites at 11am to discuss an important topic for so many in society today… “Would I and you fight for the Freedom of Europe”. As always, all are welcome to come along and join in the debate.

As usual our Mah Jong Red Dragons will be getting together at Hotel Miba for more Mah Jong fun at 11 am. Newbies are always welcome to come along and see how it goes. Players now enjoy a tasty breakfast at the Hotel Miba too!

On Monday afternoon at 4:30pm our Ukulele Strumblies will be getting together again and for the next few weeks we will be “al Fresco” in Park Fuente, Salobreña  at El Parke Cafeteria whilst our friends Martin and Phil of Bar Amigos enjoy a well earned break in May. We continue with our fantastic new set of songs so it’s a lot of fun. If you would like to come along and try playing, just let us know in advance and we can have a uke ready for you to try. If you would like to come along and join in the singing, that is fine too. Maybe you would like to come along to enjoy the practice!

We look forward to seeing you!

Tuesday 13 May

A, B, C – Art Backgammon and Chess…

All at Hotel Salobreña Suites at 11am. This week we have arranged for the art group to be able to use a table indoors, either in the Games area next to the TV lounge or in a spare function room.

Backgammon and Chess as usual in the Bar area or terrace.

You might recall that our Darts Mini Club got together for the first time last week at Bar Amigos and we had a lot of fun trying to hit every number sequentially on the board – to varying degrees of ease and success!

As we mentioned earlier, Bar Amigos are on holiday for the rest of May so Darts will resume when they return. We will remind you nearer the time!

Wednesday 14 May

George and Rose Tai Chi Kung

On Wednesday at Hotel Salobreña Suites George and Rose return to share their knowledge of Tai Chi Kung and put us through the 18 moves we have come to know and love! We will start at 11:30am as usual on the lawn by the Chiringo Bar.

Do come along in something suitable to facilitate a little gentle movement and stretching. We also recommend barefoot to ground and benefit from the natural contact with the Earth!

Thursday 15 May

Nothing Today!

Friday 16 May

We are now back at Park Fuente next to Dia Supermarket for Petancas every Friday at 10:15am for start of play at 10:30am. We will of course send a message out on the day if the weather is unkind and we cancel. If you would like adding to our WhatsApp Broadcast list for Petancas please do let us know.

Buffet Lunch at Hotel Salobreña Suites with ICS Member Discount

Summer is approaching and the hotel is regularly seeing more clients. The pool is also coming to life again as it gets warmer.

We spoke with Reception at the hotel last week about our members taking advantage of the buffet lunch in the Dining Room. There has been a small increase in cost for this year but we still benefit from a 3 euro discount. ICS Members can ask to dine in the Hotel buffet for 15:50 euros which includes all of the buffet but excludes drinks which can be ordered in the restaurant or bar. If you would like to take the buffet at anytime, just see Reception and let them know, especially if you are a large group. You can pay at Reception too.

Using the swimming pool is fine of course, but when we break for summer the hotel asks that we book food at the Chiringo Bar (minimum 15:50 per person) or in the restaurant for buffet lunch.

Next trip coming up! Guadix – Cave Houses and Wine Tasting – Wednesday 28 May (to be confirmed)

We have been working on our next trip to Guadix but we apologise that it has taken longer than we anticipated. We are almost ready to go live with bookings. Unfortunately we have had to move it back to 28 May to allow some time to get everything ready. Watch this space!

Coming up soon! Barbara Lamplugh – Creative Writer and Published author

We do have an important date still for you on Wednesday 21 May when ICS Member and published author, Barbara Lamplugh will be with us to share insights into her creative writing process and an introduction into her novels currently available – “Secrets of The Pomegranate” and “The Red Gene”. She will have copies of her books with her and of course happy to sign them for us! You can find out more about Barbara here… www.barbaralamplugh.com.

Arte Peazos – A festival that turns the streets Of Salobreña into a living museum

Art Peazos is much more than an event: it is a living artistic meeting that transforms the streets of Salobreña into an outdoor museum. During the month of May, this villa of the Costa Tropical is filled with colour, creativity and talent with the arrival of artists from different disciplines who share their process, work and energy with neighbours and visitors.

We have been asked to share some information with you about the planned festival…

For several days, the streets, squares and corners of Salobreña, La Caleta, La Guardia and Lobres are filled with life and creation. It is a festival where art happens in the sight of everyone, in direct contact with the environment and people.

Among the main activities, you will find:

    Large-format urban walls.

Sculptures in stone carved in situ.

    Workshops open for all ages.

Colloquiums with artists, writers and creatives.

Outdoor concerts in magical corners of the villa.

Exhibitions, lime painting, drawing with model, artetherapy and more.

Click here for the Schedule of events.

Travel Sharing – Facebook ICS Member’s Group Car Sharing Chat Now live!

So we have now introduced a chat option for members of our ICS Member’s Group. If you have space for other members you can go on and let them know so they can get in touch. If you are looking for a lift you can go in and ask. Don’t forget to mention which activity / event / meeting and from where the lift is needed.

Thanks

Your ICS Committee
