We have another opportunity to visit the Nao Victoria replica of the ship that first circumnavigated the globe!
Wednesday 3 December at 11:15 am. The guided tour lasts 40 minutes.
This is a self drive trip as Motril port is so very close to us. But, if you do not have transport to the port it may be possible to arrange some car sharing if you let us know.
The Nao Victoria—originally a small 16th‑century carrack that sailed with Ferdinand Magellan’s fleet and completed the first circumnavigation under Juan Sebastián Elcano—stands as a powerful symbol of early global exploration and the connections it forged between Europe, the Americas and Asia; the original voyage departed Seville in 1519 and returned in 1522, proving the feasibility of a global sea route and marking one of the great achievements of the Age of Discovery.
The replica, painstakingly researched and built in Spain in 1991, was constructed using contemporary chronicles, nautical treaties and period iconography to reproduce the ship’s dimensions, spars, sails and equipment as faithfully as possible; after serving as an educational exhibit it completed its own circumnavigation between 2004 and 2006, becoming the first historical replica to sail around the world and since then has operated as a floating museum, training ship and cultural ambassador, visiting ports across Europe, the USA and beyond to bring maritime history to life for millions of visitors.
For our International Club of Salobreña visit, members will have the chance to step aboard a vessel that links local Andalusian shipbuilding and seafaring traditions to a pivotal moment in world history, to see authentic‑style rigging and deck layouts, and to hear stories of navigation, hardship and discovery that shaped the modern world; the experience is both educational and evocative, ideal for a group interested in history, culture and international connections.
We have a maximum allocation of 20 places for this visit so please book as soon as you can to ensure that you do not miss out.
