Weekly Update – March 22, 2026

Weekly Update – March 22, 2026

  English

Hello Everybody!

Well, that was a really interesting week!

We had two ukulele performances 🎶
Bar Amigos was pretty much full on the 17th, and we had 111 in the audience for the Almuñécar gig! A great time was had by all, and we received some very positive feedback from Los Nórdicos.

👏 Well done to Mark and the gang!

📅 Next performance:
9 May at Ron Montero in Motril – add it to your diaries!

🧘‍♂️Activities Last Week

We had a really good Tai Chi Chikung session on Wednesday at the hotel with around 20 participants.
💰 €32 was raised for charity, which the club matched (i.e. €64 in total)

The charities supported are:

  • 💧 A clean water project in Kenya
  • ❤️ Save the Children in Gaza

We also held our first Scrabble session 🔤
🏆 Congratulations to Sue McGeoch, this month’s champion with an impressive score of 293 (3-player tables)!

🚗 Museum & Caves Trip

The trip to the museum and caves was a big success!

The cars and fashion items were mightily impressive. I have to say, I’m not really into cars, but I was blown away by some of these vehicles.

To top the day off, we visited the Treasure Caves, where it felt remarkable being in a space where Neanderthals once lived.

👍 Lots of positive feedback here too!

🗣️ Discussion Group

Last Monday’s discussion group, led by Matthias on European Royal Families, was really interesting.

Committee member Sinikka tells me it was a lively and enjoyable discussion.

👉 Please come along to the next one on Monday 30 March and support this great initiative!

🧘‍♂️ Activities This Week

🚶‍♂️ Walk

📅 Thursday 26th – 9:30am
📍 Meet: Caleta car park (near the old sugar cane factory)

Martin Riley writes:
This week’s walk takes us along the coast via two of Salobreña’s smaller beaches/coves, with great coastal views.

It’s a shorter route but with more climbing than our first walk:

  • Distance: ~8 km
  • Elevation: ~300m ascent/descent
  • Terrain: mix of tracks and rocky paths
  • Possible stream crossing near Playa El Cambrón

☀️ Recommended: sunscreen/hat and at least 1 litre of water per person

Here is a YouTube video of a similar walk in the area

🌿 Community Clean-Up

📅 Sunday 29th – 10:00am
📍 Meeting point: Camino del Peral (see Pic)

I’m planning a clean-up of the roads across La Vega.

🧤 I’ll bring bags, litter pickers, and gloves.
📸

We will do a walk around La Vega as indicated but people can do the other roads as well along the way. I realise that this will clash with Semana Santa, but it’s a nice walk anyway! Meet at the Start, Camino del Peral.

Please reply to this email if you can join us!

🏛️ Other News

So, there I was mixing and shaking with the big wigs from El Ayuntamiento on Friday for the meeting about “Abriendo espacios de participación vecinal”, and I had a brief chat with Salobreña’s deputy mayor, María Carmen Rodríguez Callejón about our club, which could be useful going forward! 🤝

I’m the big guy on the left of shot! 😅
