Hello Everybody!
Another wonderful week is upon us! 🎉 Here’s what’s happening in and around the ICS this week.
🎲 GAMES DAY
Games Day at the hotel on Wednesday was great fun! Cornhole on the lawn attracted quite a few players, while indoors we had a lively Scrabble session. This time, Wendy Knee was crowned Scrabble champion. Wendy is never lost for words! 😄

Next week, our resident Viking, Espen Gade, is back with a quiz. It’s sure to be a humdinger, so come along and give those brain cells a workout! 🧠
🚴 BIKE RIDE
Last week, I mistakenly gave the wrong date for the bike ride, although the day was correct. It should have read Thursday 29 October.
We’ll meet at 10:30 am by the petanca pitches in El Parque.
Please let me know if you plan to join us. If anyone has a bike gathering dust in their garage that they would consider lending out, it would be much appreciated!
Bikes are available from Trujbike in Salobreña for 35 euros/day 🚲
🥾 MONTHLY WALK
The next walk is scheduled for Thursday 5 November.

ICS Walk – 5 November
Salobreña’s Coastline, Cliffs and Coves
The November walk repeats a popular route from last year, taking in the coastline from La Caleta to the small cove at Playa de Cambrón, below Hotel Salobreña.
A mix of paths and tracks takes us past some of the coastal miradors, making the most of the sea views and offering opportunities to spot coastal and marine birdlife. After a short climb early in the walk, we’ll be mainly following easy tracks.
Last year’s walk included a short but very productive litter pick on the little-visited Playa de Cambrón. I propose to repeat this, so I’ll bring a couple of bags to collect some of the plastic that will inevitably have washed up among the rocks of this beautiful beach. 🌊
📍 Meeting point: Car park near the old sugar cane factory in La Caleta
🕤 Time: 9:30 am
📏 Distance: Approximately 9 km
⛰️ Ascent: Approximately 200 metres
Please bring plenty of water (at least 1 litre per person) and sun protection. ☀️

Hello Debaters,
Here’s the invitation to our next discussion on Monday, 26 October 2026, at 11:00 am at Hotel Salobreña.
The handout is available on the ICS Discussion Group Handout List on the website.
With the US midterm elections approaching in response to Donald Trump’s right-wing populist politics, and with the election results likely to influence voter behaviour in Europe too, there are plenty of issues to consider. There are also doubts about the US President’s willingness to accept the election result.
Our topic for next Monday is:
Where Does Right-Wing Populist Policy Lead?
This time, I’ve managed to reduce the handout to just one page, but I’ve left some questions open at the end. So please bring some answers with you!

🎃 HALLOWEEN / ART CLUB
The ICS will be at Bar Amigos on Saturday 31 October, handing out sweets and other goodies to the children. 🍬
Amigos will also be hosting a spooky quiz, along with an opportunity for people to read out a 100-word story or poem. The scarier, the better! 👻

Next week, the Art Club will turn its attention to holiday decorations. On 5 December, we’ll be selling decorations and artwork at the Vélez holiday market, donating the proceeds. We’ll also be donating some of the holiday decorations to be sold by Homeless Cats of Salobreña and Valley Verde.
🎨 A great way to get creative while supporting some worthwhile causes!
🎬 MOVIE NIGHT
Everyone enjoyed last Thursday’s movie night, featuring Sideways, the 2004 American comedy-drama directed by Alexander Payne.
The next movie night is provisionally scheduled for 11 November.

Exciting news! The ICS will be broadcasting on Radio Salobreña 107.1 every Tuesday from 8:00 to 9:00 pm, starting 3 November.
