Jaén in a Day: Palaces, Arab Baths, Historic Quarters & Cathedral Views Thursday, 15 October 2026
Discover Jaén—a city of Renaissance elegance, Moorish heritage, lively legends, and unforgettable hilltop panoramas. This full‑day excursion blends history, culture, architecture, and local charm into one beautifully paced experience.
Morning: Palaces, Museums & Moorish Baths
Our visit begins at Villardompardo Palace, a striking 16th‑century Renaissance residence once home to Fernando de Torres y Portugal, the First Count of Villardompardo and Viceroy of Peru. Inside, we’ll explore the Museum of Popular Arts and Customs, where ceramics, farm tools, clothing, games, furniture, and looms bring Jaén’s pre‑industrial traditions vividly to life.
“Everyday objects, ceramics, farm tools, clothing, games, furniture, and looms bring Jaén’s pre-industrial traditions vividly to life.”
We then continue to Spain’s Naïf Art Museum, a colourful celebration of self‑taught creativity, rural life, folklore, and spontaneous visual storytelling.
From here, we descend to the Arab Baths of Jaén, hidden beneath the palace and considered among the largest and best‑preserved Moorish baths in Europe. Dating back to the 11th century, these atmospheric chambers offer a rare glimpse into Andalusia’s Islamic past. After approximately 90 minutes, we’ll finish at the palace’s Terrace Viewpoint, where sweeping views of Jaén provide a perfect finale to the visit.
Midday: Historic Quarters & Cathedral Audio Tour
Our adventure continues through the San Juan and Magdalena neighbourhoods—two of Jaén’s most historic districts, home to the city council and the legendary tale of the Jaén lizard. You’ll hear the story on the tour.
We conclude with an audio‑guided visit to the Asunción de la Virgen Cathedral, Jaén’s most iconic monument and a masterpiece of the Spanish Renaissance.
Afternoon: Free Time to Explore
After a full morning and early afternoon of discoveries, you’ll have free time to enjoy lunch, browse local shops, or continue exploring Jaén at your own pace.
